A foray into the Altmark

The Altmark region in the north of Saxony-Anhalt, with its beautiful countryside and long history, is the perfect place to relax. Camping fans are sure to find a site that suits their tastes here. One of the twelve sites in the region is located on the Elbe Cycle Route, near the village of Bittkau in the southeast part of the Stendal district. The idyllic Family-Camp Kellerwiehl site is set beside a small lake. The 20-hectare site lies in the heart of the countryside and has space for 120 tents, motorhomes and caravans. Anyone who prefers four walls can stay in one of the log cabins, in a vacation apartment or also in an individual room.

The special highlight of the site are the Pippowagen – small wooden huts in the style of horse-drawn carriages that can be booked for single nights, which makes them very popular with cyclists. Children can swim in the lake, enjoy the small playground and try out the zipline. Because the Elbe Cycle Route is so close to the site, it is well worth visitors bringing their bikes with them. The Hanseatic town of Tangermünde, Jerichow Abbey and the town of Tangerhütte with its historic park are all ideal destinations for a day trip by bike. The site is open from the beginning of April until the end of October and the restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner every day. Fresh bread rolls are also available to buy for breakfast.
