Long established and yet dynamic and innovative, point electronic was founded in 1992 by a small group of physicists as a university spin-off. The company has since carried out more than 3,000 electron microscope installations and now works with partners in 30 countries.

It also maintains close ties with Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, Fraunhofer IMWS, the German National Metrology Institute in Braunschweig, Trinity College Dublin, and TU Berlin. The company is based at Weinberg Campus Technology Park, eastern Germany’s second-largest science and research hub with a focus on life sciences, biomedicine, and materials science. More than 100 companies and institutes with some 6,000 employees are currently located there.

Christoph Sichting joined the company in 2012 and has been managing director since 2014. “When I took over there were ten of us. Today we’re a team of 30, and English is our company language. That’s a reflection of how dynamic this field is,” says Sichting, a trained lawyer.
